Natuurwandeling Miseriebocht (The nature trail Misery curve)
This walking trail explores the rich vegetation alongside the south bank of an old curve in the canal, managed by Natuurpunt vzw. Thanks to excellent management, you can find many plants, such as heather and bedstraw in the indigent, sandy taluses. Many animals live there as well, for example the “levendbarende” lizard and the largest West-Flemish population of the blindworm. Trees such as the broom and the win characterize the banks. You can walk to your heart’s delight on the semi- and unpaved paths alongside the bank. The trail takes you as far as the dam, from there on you can choose either to take the same route back to your starting point, or to make a small detour via the village of Sint-Joris.
